Netflix has announced the renewal of the sci-fi drama The Three-Body Problem for a new series of episodes, the exact number of which will be revealed later. The news was revealed during an upfront presentation to advertisers in New York City.

“We are thrilled to bring this story to its epic conclusion,” said the co-creators of The Three-Body Problem

While Netflix hasn't specified whether the new episodes will be designated Season 2, series co-creators David Benioff, DB Weiss, and Alexander Woo, who will all return for season two, have indicated that the story is coming to an epic conclusion: “We are thrilled to bring this story to its epic conclusion. From the moment we read the last page of Cixin Liu's magnificent trilogy, we hoped to be able to accompany the audience to the end of the universe. And now we are here!” Peter Friedlander, Netflix's vice president of series writing for the US and Canada, praised the creators' extraordinary vision and incredible collaboration that brought The Three-Body Problem to life, teasing that the series will reach new heights as the protagonists face the rest of their journey through Death's End, the third book in Liu Cixin's trilogy.

Based on the Remembrance of Earth's Past novel trilogy by Liu Cixin, the series follows a group of former Oxford students and a victim of the Chinese Cultural Revolution caught up in an alien plot to conquer Earth. The plot revolves around a mathematical and astronomical puzzle and a hyper-realistic video game. The cast includes names like Jovan Adepo, Rosalind Chao, Liam Cunningham, Benedict Wong, and many more. The first season of The Three-Body Problem ended with a failed attempt to interact with the invading aliens, known as San-Ti, and with the protagonist Saul (played by Jovan Adepo) designated as a “wallfacer” tasked with finding a way to defeat the San-Ti.
