Kingston Movie Review: G.V. Prakash Kumar is a star music director and an actor who has made films without a gap. His new film, Kingston, was released in Tamil and Telugu simultaneously today. Let's see its features.

Movie Story:

Kingston (G.V. Prakash Kumar) is a boy who works in a smuggling gang, even if it is in the wrong way. His goal is to earn money and buy a boat. However, King gets into a fight with Thomas, who runs the smuggling gang. Due to this, the entire village loses its job. However, the people of that village have no employment.

There is a curse that if anyone from that village goes to the sea to fish, they will return dead. King is determined to solve the mystery behind this curse and provide employment to the village. He sets out into the sea in a boat, chasing a group of friends. And did King and his friends manage to go into the sea and come out safely? What is the story behind the curse? Did King achieve what he wanted? All these questions should be answered on screen.

Analysis:

Tamil cinema used to be on a level with fresh stories.. gripping stories.. surprising scenes. Seeing them, our audience thought, "Why would our people make such films?" But now Tamil cinema is filled with old stories. Even if they try something new, Tamil filmmakers lack the skill to tell it skillfully.

'Kingston' is a slightly different film compared to the routine mass masala films coming out in Tamil recently. Director Kamal Prakash wanted to give the audience a different experience in the backdrop of the sea. But in that attempt, what did he tell the hero.. the producer about the story he wrote and convince them is questionable.

Did he actually say that it was a horror movie.. a thriller.. or did he give it some other name and give them the script.. Didn't they listen to the whole story and try to ask what he really wanted to say with the movie.. Didn't they express any doubts about the logic in the story.. about the scenes?

If you ask those who have seen the movie to tell you what this story is.. if even a single viewer can explain it to you.. then that person should be given a lot of respect. Because the director has filled the movie 'Kingston' with so much confusion.

The director lacked proper clarity in portraying the character of the hero. His primary goal is to make money by making any mistake. What he does is smuggling. Again, he cheats in it. Alanto confronts his boss and comes out to help the village.

We have seen many films where the hero with the shades of a villain later transforms, but here there is no strong reason for such a change in the hero. There is no interest in the scenes surrounding the smuggling of the hero and the gang. After that, the scenes surrounding the hardships of the village are also mind-boggling.

However, all that remains is to wait for the episode set in the backdrop of the sea, which aroused interest in the trailer of 'Kingston'. 'Kingston', which is very heavy in the first hour, arouses some interest in the beginning of the episode of the sea. We are eagerly waiting to see what the mystery is behind the deaths of the villagers. We think that while it is said that it is a curse, there will be another reason behind the scenes.

But they have concluded this with a low-level horror point. There is no reason to call it 'low level' here. The ghostly avatars that attack the hero and gang.. Looking at their behavior, one can only shake their heads wondering if such a setup is a thing these days. It is very difficult to bear seeing those disgusting scenes.

The flashback related to the hero's grandfather.. In it, a lot of the story is led around twists, but.. it seems very poor. The story runs in a way that does not create the least interest.. very boring. On one hand, the narration is incomprehensible.. On the other hand, the Tamil smells are overwhelming.. The flashback episode is completely clear with no explosive twists.

Even after coming to the present, there is no change in 'Kingston'. Who is the hero.. Who is the villain.. 'Kingston' continues with the confusion of not knowing which character is which. No character, including the hero, has the right elevation in the film. Somehow, we will come to a situation where we will die when the film ends. Even the climax scenes lacked sparkle.

The necessary setup for a big movie was done in the backdrop of the sea, but due to the uninteresting storyline, it all became a wasted effort. The director, who mixed various genres and weaved the story, could not do justice to any genre. From the very beginning to the end, 'Kingston', which continues with a turmoil... and confusion, leaves the audience with a headache.

Actors Performance:

G.V.Prakash Kumar is doing well as an actor, but.. he often makes mistakes in the choice of stories. It is incomprehensible that he chose his story. It seems that the hero role is there, but there is nothing special about it. Due to many limitations as an actor, G.V. could not make it special either.

Choosing Divya Bharati, who is known as a glamour girl, for such a de-glamorous role is a wrong choice. She could not show the glamour aspect in her style. Nor could she impress as an actress. Senior actors like Chetan.. Alagam Perumal were somewhat impressive. The actors who played the roles of the hero's friends are not bad. The hustle and bustle in the film.. is visible in the actors' gestures. Everyone acted more than necessary.

Technical Category:

Technically, the highlight of 'Kingston' is that it was able to shoot scenes in the sea setting well on a limited budget. The artwork.. cinematography.. everything is done well and all the scenes in the sea look visually good. This story has been able to create the feeling that it is really happening in the sea. There is nothing special in the songs of G.V. Prakash Kumar. The background music is okay.

The production values appear to be much better for the budget level. Kamal Prakash as a writer-director.. has disappointed in both ways. He could not cover the confusion in the script even with the taking. From the beginning to the end, the film feels like a jumble. The director has completely failed to tell the story understandably.

Rating- 2.25/5
