Story:
A special officer (Ajay) comes to Ratnagiri with his team to catch a gangster named Yati. There in Ratnagiri, Singappa (Prakash Raj) tells the story of Devara to the officer.
In the past, four villages gathered on a hill and used to make sure that no enemy came into the kingdom from the sea. They don't know fear. After the kingdoms were gone, the British took money from our country and if the ships were going from the sea, they used to take it from it. At a time when those who have worked for the kingdom and the country have now idle for generations, Muruga (Murali Sharma) steals the cargo in the sea by promising money to these four village elders, Devara (NTR), Kunjara (Kalairasan), Bhaira (Saif Ali Khan) and Rayappa (Srikanth). They earn by doing that work as they are told to take it from.
But as Devara knows that what comes in it are illegal weapons and because of them even his life has been lost, he is determined not to do this work anymore. But when Bhaira and Kunjara disagree, they become enemies. If anyone but him goes into the sea, Devara kills them saying that he will show fear to them. They plan to kill Devara anyway. But Devara disappears after killing some people. Devara becomes a ghost after fearing that he will be a guard in the dark and will kill anyone who steals. Where did Devara go? Did Bhaira go thieving in the sea again? Why is Bhaira's son Vara like a coward? What is the love story of Vara and Thangam (Jahnvi Kapoor)? Who is the Yeti? If you want to know, you have to watch it on the screen.
Analysis:
NTR is coming as a solo hero after six years, Koratala Acharya is coming after the flop, and NTR is coming with Devara after Rajamouli's movie, there are expectations about this movie from the beginning. The rush of songs, trailers, and teasers before the release has made the fans and the audience have high expectations. But the story of the movie starts with a gangster named Yati and goes into the story of Devara to show fear to the officer without any real connection. As a result, the actual mention of the yeti does not come again in the movie. Let's see if he is the villain in the second half.
Koratala has written well the establishment of characters around Devara, four villages. In the screenplay, the story was carried out in a normal manner without any novelty. After showing the story of Devara in the first part, Vara enters in the second part. The length of the movie is almost three hours and the story seems to be stretched with some unwanted scenes. The twist that comes in the pre-climax is what everyone expected from before.
The climax twist reminds Baahubali twist. With this, you have to carry that twist until the second part comes. The action sequences are very well designed. All around, the song is just meant to show that Jhanvi is beautiful. It is noteworthy that Davudi Song is not original in the movie. Hero Elevations has given enough. In general, there should be fear to avoid doing evil, and that fear is shown by the story of how Devara became.
Devara Movie Actors Performance:
NTR acted very well in both roles. He excelled in action sequences. There is nothing special to say about NTR's dance. Once again he entertained the audience with his dancing. Janhvi Kapoor's character appears only briefly to show off her beauty. Can Janhvi have more length in the second part? Shruti Marathi is amazing in the role of Devara's wife. Saif Ali Khan acted well in the negative role. Rameshwari, Srikanth, Prakash Raj, Shine Cham Taco, Narine, Ajay, and Murali Sharma are in the role of Devara's mother.
Devara Movie Technical Aspects:
This movie is technically strong in all departments. Ratnavelu's cinematography is very beautiful in a dark tone. As for the background music, Anirudh has nailed it. Although the song is pleasing throughout, the rest are okay. Art Director Sabu Cyril worked hard. Boats, sea, village sets in forest... all these are designed in a very natural way. The graphic works are also done perfectly. The story and narrative feel a bit weak and stretched. Koratala was a hundred percent success as a director. In terms of production, it looks grand on the screen as if Devara spent a lot of money on the film.
Overall, the movie Devara is a story of a man who fights with his people for good. The story of the search for what happened to that person. NTR fans are happy. The rest of us go without any expectations and like it even if it seems a little bit of a stretch. This movie can be rated 2.75.
